Faithful One Hundred Percent

I'm leave on a missions trip to Loja Ecuador in 40 days for a week and a half.  I don't know any Spanish.  I've never been on the missions trip.  My geography sucks.  (I'm not totally sure why that's important but it feels important so I added it)  I'm the youngest going by a lot.  I go sick when I have to even share a testimony.  I'm directionally challenged....Rephrase.  I'm directionally broken.

Some months ago I heard work mates talk about me on different occasions, about my stupidity. "Yeah, who does that?"
It hurt.

*Writing about my trip to Ecuador.*  Your writing is baloney.  You're not actually passionate about this.
*Making wrist bands to sell as a fund raiser.*  What a dumb logo.  These are stupid.  You're stupid.
Everything I did seemed to start with That's dumb and end with You're dumb.

I'm too stupid.  Too stupid to do anything.  I mess up everything.  I want to follow God's will but God can't use a stupid person.

I'm in Seussical the Musical.  I'm not being random, really, I actually have a point to this.  If you don't know the story, it's about Horton the Elephant (the local no-brain) who takes the responsibility upon himself to be the protector of an abandoned birds egg, and an invisible world.  Throughout the story he's called a fool, he's teased, he's tormented, and even battled because of his faithfulness.

I was reading 1 Corinthians this morning.  Paul describes the Corinthians in that church as 'not wise by human standards or noble or educated.'
And then he says;

But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.  He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things-and the things that are not-to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.

My first thought: That sounds like Horton.
Then it got personal.  I remembered asking God how he could use me.  He replied, "Just like this."

I meant what I said, and I said what I meant.  An elephant's faithful one-hundred percent!  You can throw me in jail, lock me up in a zoo, but I wont desert my egg and I will not abandon Who!
-Horton (Seussical the Musical, from the books my Dr. Seuss)

  1. Thank you so much for sharing. Appreciate it. Yea, God knows if we’re following God. He can help it always be from our heart whenever it wasn’t. Don't be discouraged when someone else (including ourselves) says we're too un-smart, or just not right for the job. Maybe we can agree with those statements about ourselves, haha. But then say, "But You are God and You are more then able to use me for Your purposes." (At least what I do sometimes.) Now I'm thinking of your, “Just like this.” Sounds like what God speaks to me too, Doc. Yea, and His power is more easily seen in the things we do we obviously didn’t do in our own power. :) Can't wait to hear about how God works during this whole mission-trip experience, what miracles He does or how He worked with ordinary things, how you guys got to know God more, and how other people did too or maybe at least they’ll get the soil in their hearts more prepared for their eventual relationship with God. Maybe we’ll get to hear how they came to know their Savior right then hopefully to walk with Him from there for forever! Please, dear Lord, we know You desire that, so prepare the ground. Thank You for Your plans! :) Dr. Elemis Pott, really excited for what God has in mind both for you, and Liddy. Maybe we won't get to hear about it all. Maybe you guys won't be able to tell everything, or even know right away all that God did through that time. I really appreciate to hear anytime you have things about what He is doing right now too. Glad to hear this post! I don't know Hebrew yet either. Like those other things you mentioned, Hebrew might be helpful for me to know for what I think God has in mind for the future but one thing I pray of course, just for us to stick close to Jesus. Some people Peter and John were with were really able to tell that they were uneducated and untrained somehow, but the Bible talks about when they were preaching and the people saw their boldness, the people were in awe and wondered and realized that Peter and John had been with Jesus. Maybe the people wouldn’t have been able to tell so much that they had been with Jesus, if they had otherwise been more trained and educated by human standards (not that I would recommend for us to not prepare or learn things…pretty sure we should be faithful to learn what God leads us to learn, haha). But the Holy Spirit is who is able to sufficiently equip us to let the people see Jesus most clearly. :) God can help us let them hear what they need to hear from us tools of His.
    Thanks for the post, my very favorite, and best Dr. Elemis Pott!
